SUMMARY:Art Talk: Patrice Aphrodite Helmar
DESCRIPTION:Clark’s MFA in Visual Arts program presents an Art Talk with visiting faculty member Patrice Aphrodite Helmar.  \n\n\n\nPatrice Aphrodite Helmar is an artist who was born in Juneau\, Alaska. They grew up working in their father’s small-town camera shop and darkroom\, and they continue to work in photography. Helmar’s work has been shown at PARTICIPANT INC; the Jewish Museum; Ortega Y Gasset Projects; Gaa Gallery; the National Museum of Iceland; and other spaces. Helmar’s multidisciplinary work concerns issues of labor\, class\, queerness\, and the politics of representation.  \n\n\n\nHelmar has held faculty positions at Harvard University\, Columbia University\, Fordham University\, and Pratt Institute. Their work is in the collection at the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York City).

DESCRIPTION:Clark’s MFA in Visual Arts program presents an Art Talk with visiting artist Josephine Halvorson.  \n\n\n\nJosephine Halvorson makes art from direct observation\, foregrounding the firsthand experience of noticing\, describing\, and learning from the physical world. She works primarily in painting\, but also in sculpture and printmaking. Halvorson’s work is represented by Sikkema Malloy Jenkins\, New York\, and Peter Freeman\, Paris. She has presented work internationally at institutions including the Storm King Art Center\, the ICA Boston\, and the Havana Biennale. \n\n\n\nHalvorson was the longtime chair of graduate studies in painting at Boston University and\, beginning this fall\, will be the assistant director of graduate studies in painting/printmaking at Yale University.

DESCRIPTION:Clark’s MFA in Visual Arts program presents an Art Talk with visiting artist Ian Alteveer.  \n\n\n\nIan Alteveer is the Beal Family Chair of MFA Boston’s Department of Contemporary Art\, a position he has held since 2023. Previously\, he was curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City\, where he curated projects by artists including Cecily Brown\, Vija Celmins\, David Hockney\, Marisa Merz\, and Kerry James Marshall. Alteveer also serves on the board of Artadia in New York\, and on the board of trustees of Anderson Ranch Art Center in Colorado.
