
Clark’s MFA in Visual Arts program presents an Art Talk with visiting faculty member Patrice Aphrodite Helmar.
Patrice Aphrodite Helmar is an artist who was born in Juneau, Alaska. They grew up working in their father’s small-town camera shop and darkroom, and they continue to work in photography. Helmar’s work has been shown at PARTICIPANT INC; the Jewish Museum; Ortega Y Gasset Projects; Gaa Gallery; the National Museum of Iceland; and other spaces. Helmar’s multidisciplinary work concerns issues of labor, class, queerness, and the politics of representation.
Helmar has held faculty positions at Harvard University, Columbia University, Fordham University, and Pratt Institute. Their work is in the collection at the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York City).
