The first day should focus on getting the employee set up, oriented, and introduced to the team without overloading the schedule.
Arrival
- Be available to meet the employee or assign someone who will be available.
- Bring the employee to their workspace and walk through the basics of the space.
Getting set up
- Confirm access to computer and email.
- Confirm access to shared drives, systems, and any tools needed immediately.
OneCard (Clark ID)
The OneCard is used for identification and building access and should be completed early.
- Assist the employee in obtaining their OneCard by walking them to the OneCard Office (Help Desk – Academic Commons, Plaza area) or guiding them through the Your First OneCard process online.
- You will need the employee Clark ID number, which is included in the HR new hire email.
- The OneCard Office will also program building access.
Parking
- Direct the employee to the Campus Parking and Permits webpage. They can also go to the University Policy in person to purchase a decal.
- Have them complete the parking application.
Team introductions
- Introduce the employee to team members.
- Provide context about roles and responsibilities where helpful.
- If possible, plan a simple team lunch or coffee on the first day to help the employee get to know the team.
Role overview
- Review what the first few days will look like.
- Identify who the employee should go to with questions.
