Learning outcomes
- Skills in music theory and analysis that enable heightened understanding, appreciation, and/or performance of repertory across a spectrum of styles and aesthetics
- Professional-level music technology training with an intensive focus on both theoretical understanding and practical application of advanced music technologies
- Skills and background in the historical study of music encompassing cultural, biographical, aesthetic, social, and critical perspectives
- A meaningful knowledge of musical repertory that includes both coherent overviews of large repertoires (defined by styles, periods, composers, geography, and/or genres) and in-depth study of specific works and genres
- The skills and experience that accrue from the successful individual study of an instrument or voice and/or from successful ensemble performance of music
- Substantial competence in oral expression and critical writing about music
- A grasp of fundamental skills in music research
- The ability to plan and complete an independent research or creative capstone project that integrates scholarly, creative, and/or performance skills
