Frequently asked questions
What makes Summer Game Studio different from other camps?
Clark University’s Summer Game Studio offers the features of a traditional camp plus more. It’s a pre-college design studio experience, where students collaborate, problem-solve, and create in a way that reflects real industry workflows. Students also build meaningful friendships while staying overnight in a University residence hall and dine together on campus.
Is there a set curriculum, and who teaches the program?
Summer Game Studio operates as a studio environment, meaning students learn through hands-on development, guided workshops, and mentorship rather than a rigid, one-size-fits-all curriculum.
All instruction is led by Clark University Becker School of Design & Technology full-time faculty, supported by teaching assistants, many of whom are Summer Game Studio alumni, bringing both academic expertise and real program experience.
Will students complete an original, playable game?
Yes! Each team develops a playable game by the end of the program, along with supporting materials such as a trailer, posters, T-shirts, pins, and a final presentation.
Is there a final event?
Yes! On the final Saturday, students present their games at a Game Expo Showcase, where family, friends, and community members can play the games and watch presentations.
Does Summer Game Studio support neurodivergent students or students who need accommodations?
Yes! Our flexible, team-based studio model naturally supports a wide range of working styles and strengths.
While Summer Game Studio is not a specialized therapeutic program, we regularly work with students who benefit from accommodations. We encourage families to connect with us ahead of time so we can best support each student’s experience.
Do students use artificial intelligence (AI) tools during the program?
Currently, Summer Game Studio focuses on building foundational skills without reliance on AI tools. We do, however, discuss emerging technologies and their role in the industry, and continue to explore thoughtful ways to incorporate them in the future.
Will this program help with college or career readiness?
Yes! Students gain hands-on experience, build portfolio pieces, and develop teamwork and creative skills that are valuable for both college and future career pathways.
