Ensembles and performance
Performance is built into the music curriculum from the start.
Every music major participates in ensemble performance for credit, and the range of Clark’s performing organizations means there’s a home for almost every musical interest.
Clark’s Ensembles
- Clark University Choir (MUSC 170) — Clark’s flagship choral ensemble
- Clark Chamber Chorus (MUSC 171) — a select choral ensemble for advanced singers
- Concert Band (MUSC 172) — wind, brass, and percussion ensemble performing a range of repertoire
- Chamber Music Ensembles (MUSC 173) — small group performance in a variety of configurations
- Jazz Workshop and Combo (MUSC 174) — improvisation, arrangement, and performance in the jazz tradition
- Clark University Symphony Orchestra (MUSC 175) — full orchestral performance open to all undergraduate and graduate students
Ensembles rehearse regularly and perform multiple public concerts each year. Auditions are held at the start of each semester. Non-majors are welcome in all ensembles.
Private Instruction
Private lessons in voice and a wide range of instruments are available every semester, with or without course credit. Majors and minors take lessons for credit through MUSC 180; non-majors can participate through a non-credit option. Working one-on-one with a faculty or staff instructor is one of the most direct ways to develop as a musician at Clark.
Performance Spaces
Clark’s music program performs in two primary spaces: Razzo Hall in the Traina Center for the Arts — a dedicated recital and performance venue — and Estabrook Hall, which houses rehearsal space, practice rooms, and a recording studio.
The facilities are designed for serious musical work, and students have regular access outside of class and rehearsal times.
