Lasting Lessons from Summer Internships

It was a busy summer for many Clark University School of Business (School of Business) students, as they assisted and consulted for companies near and far via their internships. Though experiential learning is part of nearly every course, a professional internship is a required component of School of Business’s business administration, finance, marketing, and accounting programs. With support from the Stevenish Career Management Center (SCMC) staff, students seek positions that meet their career interests and schedules, utilizing the center’s online career systems and connections made with alumni and friends of the school.

With classes underway for the fall semester, associate director of the SCMC, Kelly Kochis, asked students to look back on their experiences and share some highlights. Hear in their own words what they had to say.

Position: Events and Marketing Intern, Cultural Development Department
Organization: City of Worcester, Massachusetts – the second largest city in New England

Student at City Hall

I’ve always loved marketing and have been a student of marketing analytics, but working in a government office was a new experience. With the City of Worcester, I got to see firsthand all that goes into large event organization – from drafting proposals, to managing permits and vendor applications, to working the event and then analyzing the data derived from it once it’s over so as to make adjustments for new events to follow.  I’m extremely grateful for this experience as it gave me a new perspective on something I’m so fond of!
