Screen Studies
What courses should I take in my first year to see if this is the right major for me?
The best two courses that you can take to determine if the Screen Studies major is right for you are SCRN 101 and SCRN 107. Both of these courses are also prerequisites for other higher level Screen Studies courses.
Are there any courses I am required or strongly encouraged to take in my first semester if I know I want to declare this major? Do any AP credits count for these requirements?
SCRN 101 – Foundations of Screen Studies. No AP exam can provide credit for a class in this major.
What is the latest semester that I can start this major and still graduate in four years?
It is best to declare this major no later than the second semester of your Sophomore year.
I am interested in many different subjects. What other majors, minors, or concentrations go well with this major?
The Screen Studies major can pair well with the programs of Music, Art History, Theatre Arts, Psychology, English, History, Philosophy, Marketing, and Game Design.
What else do you want incoming first year students to know about this major?
There are two ways to approach this major and both work well: 1) it is an intellectually rigorous, technologically informed liberal arts major for the 21st century, and 2) it is a hands-on production major for present and future filmmakers that involves serious historical and theoretical studies as support for your creativity.
If I want to declare this as a major, who should I talk to and where do I go?
