Media, Culture, and the Arts
What courses should I take in my first year to see if this is the right major for me?
Our program’s introductory course is MCA 101, plus a media production workshop, and provides the best snapshot as to what the major can do for our students.
Are there any courses I am required or strongly encouraged to take in my first semester if I know I want to declare this major? Do any AP credits count for these requirements?
We recommend that you sign up for MCA 101. There are no AP exams which count toward this major’s requirements.
What is the latest semester that I can start this major and still graduate in four years?
We recommend that you declare no later than the second semester of sophomore year as the major requires 13-14 courses to complete.
I am interested in many different subjects. What other majors, minors, or concentrations go well with this major?
The MCA major pairs well with almost any other major!
Where else do you want incoming first year students to know about this major?
To really understand the major, take MCA 101, plus one of more than 20 media production workshop courses that focus on practicum skills and applications. From “Art & the Alphabet” to “Recording Practice & Audio Art”, these courses will get your intellectual and creative juices flowing.
If I want to declare this as a major, who should I talk to and where do I go?
Feel free to reach out to our office to meet with any of our faculty and staff to discuss the Media, Culture and the Arts program. You can also learn more by visiting our website here.
