Economics

What courses should be taken in my first year to see if this is the right major for me?

The best class to take in your first year is ECON 010. If you enjoy the class, or have placed out of it, you should also take the subsequent class of ECON 011.

Are there any courses I am required or strongly encouraged to take in my first semester if I know I want to declare this major? Do any AP credits count for these requirements?

Make sure to at least take ECON 010 in your first semester. If you get a 4 or 5 on the AP Microeconomics exam, you can get credit for ECON 010 and then register for ECON 011 instead.

What is the latest semester that I can start this major and still graduate in four years?

The economics major requires 12 courses to be completed, which can be fulfilled if you declare the major at the latest at the start of your Junior year.

I am interested in many different subjects. What other majors, minors, or concentrations go well with this major?

Some of the programs that go well with an Economics major include Data Science, Finance, Management, Political Science, and Mathematics.

What else do you want incoming first year students to know about this major?

An economics degree prepares you for success in a wide range of fields. While business roles are the most common, economics majors also excel in law, government, healthcare, nonprofits, international relations, and academia.
