“Election to Phi Beta Kappa is an extremely rare honor,” said Cynthia Caron, associate professor of the Department of Sustainability and Social Justice (SSJ), who serves as president and treasurer of Phi Beta Kappa of Massachusetts. “Only 10% of U.S. colleges and universities have Phi Beta Kappa chapters, and they invite at most the top 10% of their arts and sciences graduates to join.”
Students inducted into the Society join a distinguished group including 17 U.S. Presidents, 41 Supreme Court Justices including Sonia Sotomayor, 140-plus Nobel Laureates, and Amanda Gorman, the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history.
