Goldberg receives award for contributions to family science
Psychology Professor Abbie Goldberg has received the 2025 Social Justice Award for Contributions to Family Science from the Inclusion and Diversity Committee of the National Council on Family Relations. The award recognizes outstanding work in the area of social justice as it relates to families.
In family science, social justice is the ongoing effort to identify and dismantle inequities shaping people’s lives, and includes not only activism but also research, teaching, leadership, and advocacy that promote equity and center marginalized communities.
Goldberg was recognized for work with diverse families, including adoptive families, LGBTQ+ parent families, and LGBTQ+ individuals, which illuminates how inequitable sociopolitical climates shape their well-being.
“Dr. Goldberg’s scholarship does not sit on a shelf,” said Yolanda Mitchell, Ph.D., chair of the Social Justice Award Subcommittee and co-chair of the Inclusion and Diversity Committee. “Her research directly informs practice and policy. … Across her scholarship, service, and teaching, Dr. Goldberg actively works to identify and transform systems of inequity.”
