AGU recognizes researchers from Clark’s Center for Geospatial Analytics
The 2025 AGU Open Science Recognition Prize has been awarded to a team of researchers including four members of Clark’s Center for Geospatial Analytics. The Prithvi-Geospatial AI Foundation Model Team was recognized for its “outstanding work in advancing Open Science related to Earth and space science and its impact globally.”
The team is comprised of 42 members from 12 institutions including four from the Clark Center for Geospatial Analytics (Clark CGA): Hamed Alemohammad, director of the Clark CGA and professor of geography; Rufai Balogun and Denys Godwin, doctoral students of geography and research assistants; and Sam Khallaghi, Ph.D ’24, a postdoctoral researcher.
The team released two large-scale AI foundation models trained on NASA’s Harmonized Landsat Sentinel dataset, which reduce computational requirements and labeled data needs for downstream tasks, broadening access to advanced AI capabilities for a diverse research community. Making the models openly available advances Earth science and exemplifies global collaboration, transparency, and education.
AGU (American Geophysical Union) is the world’s largest Earth and space science association.
