When social media was new and on the rise, scientists studied how it impacted teens. Among the many effects researchers noted was that young people were so engaged with the technology that it disturbed their sleep.

Today, similar questions exist around how artificial intelligence will impact youth.

On this epsiode of Challenge. Change., Arthur C. Evans Jr., CEO of the American Psychological Association, and Jonathan Rodriguez, a graduate student studying psychology, discuss the challenges and opportunities that artificial intelligence represents for youth mental health.

Evans and Rodriguez sat down for a conversation earlier this month during Evans’ visit to the Clark University campus.

“If you think about it, artificial intelligence is the biggest experiment on the human brain and behavior in the history of humanity,” says Evans. “We don’t know what the long-term effects of many of the features of AI will be, especially on youth.”
