When reflecting on his four years at Clark, economics major Jonathan Tamen fondly remembers his involvement with the Jewish community, especially serving on the Tikkun Olam committee and leading student volunteers to provide tutoring and enrichment for Woodland Academy Elementary schoolchildren. “I’ve really enjoyed being in a community that cares so much about turning words into action,” he says. With a Davis Foundation Projects for Peace grant, Tamen launched a free summer STEM camp to support underprivileged students. He also leads the nonprofit organization Helping Hands MB, which he hopes to scale up, and his recent economics honors thesis focused on nonprofit finances to improve economic recession resilience.
Next up for Tamen: He’s participating in the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s NextGen Leaders program this summer. It includes professional development workshops and an internship in the program’s International Advocacy department. In the fall, he’s headed to the University of Miami School of Law on a full-tuition Dean’s Scholarship.
