Women’s and Gender Studies
What courses should I take in my first year to see if this is the right major for me?
The best course to take to determine if the Women’s and Gender Studies major is best for you is WGS 110. You can also take some of the other courses cross-listed with the WGS major.
Are there any courses I am required or strongly encouraged to take in my first semester if I know I want to declare this major? Do any AP credits count for these requirements?
We highly recommend that you take WGS 110. No AP exams provide credit for any of the classes required in this major.
What is the latest semester that I can start this major and still graduate in four years?
Likely by the second semester of Sophomore year, although feasibly a student could complete this major if you decide to declare in the first semester of your Junior year. The major requires 10 classes to be completed along with completing another major, minor or concentration, so this should be taken into consideration when determining your declaration timeline.
I am interested in many different subjects. What other majors, minors, or concentrations go well with this major?
The WGS major pairs well with the programs of Psychology, Sociology, and Political Science.
What else do you want incoming first year students to know about this major?
Go to as many Women’s and Gender Studies events as possible if you are interested in learning more about this major!
If I want to declare this as a major, who should I talk to and where do I go?
