Theater Arts

What courses should I take in my first year to see if this is the right major for me?

To get a good feel for the Theater Arts major, we recommend that you take at least one (if not multiple) of the following courses: TA 109, TA 112, or TA 120.

Are there any courses I am required or strongly encouraged to take in my first semester if I know I want to declare this major? Do any AP credits count for these requirements?

Take at least one of the following: TA 109, TA 112, TA 114, TA 120, or TA 153. There are no AP exams that count towards this major’s requirements.

What is the latest semester that I can start this major and still graduate in four years?

We recommend that you declare no later than the second semester of Sophomore year as the major requires 13 courses to complete.

I am interested in many different subjects. What other majors, minors, or concentrations go well with this major?

Music, English, Studio Art, Art History, Sociology, Psychology, and Game Design are all programs that pair well with the Theater Arts major.

What else do you want incoming first year students to know about this major?

Theater Arts at Clark grounds students in the history and theory of theatre-making while industry professionals teach students the various practical skills essential to creating engaging live performances. Theater Arts offers intensive study in three areas of focus – acting/directing, tech/design, and playwrighting – to equip and encourage students to be the story tellers and collaborators of the future.
