Combined Languages
What courses should I take in my first year to see if this is the right major for me?
The best class you can take in your first year is CMLT 130. This is a team-taught course required for this interdisciplinary major. In this class, you’ll read cultural production from three cultures (three different languages) in translation.
Are there any courses I am required or strongly encouraged to take in my first semester if I
know I want to declare this major? Do any AP credits count for these requirements?
You can take the CMLT 130 class in your first semester, as we stated above. This major also requires students to be proficient in either French or Spanish as well as take two classes in a new language. We recommend taking the first level of the new language the student plans to take, as well as the next level course of either Spanish or French (depending on your level of experience in either language). That would give them a better perspective to be able to complete the major in no time.
What is the latest semester that I can start this major and still graduate in four years?
This major requires at least 10 courses to be completed (depending on your level of experience in Spanish and/or French) so we recommend that you start this major no later than your sophomore year.
I am interested in many different subjects. What other majors, minors, or concentrations go well with this major?
This major goes well with many different majors such as Psychology, Sociology, Biology, Political Sciences, etc.
What else do you want incoming first year students to know about this major?
This is a very popular and growing major. If you have experience in either Spanish or French, you’ll be able to take advantage of that experience and start your major sooner. In addition, you’ll be able to explore one or two more languages.
If I want to declare this as a major, who should I talk to and where do I go?
