Music
What courses should I take in my first year to see if this is the right major for me?
MUSC 021, MUSC 098, MUSC 102, MUSC 121, or MUSC 141 would be great choices. You can also join one of our ensembles: chorus, concert band, orchestra, or Jazz workshop.
Are there any courses I am required or strongly encouraged to take in my first semester if I know I want to declare this major? Do any AP credits count for these requirements?
MUSC 021 or MUSC 098. No AP credits count towards the Music major.
What is the latest semester that I can start this major and still graduate in four years?
First semester of Sophomore year as the major requires 15 courses to complete.
I am interested in many different subjects. What other majors, minors, or concentrations go well with this major?
The music major can pair well with almost any other program that you are passionate about, including but not limited to: MCA, Game Design, History, Arts Management (minor), Screen Studies, Art History, Theatre Arts, Psychology, and Philosophy.
What else do you want incoming first year students to know about this major?
The Music major offers great opportunities to perform, study and create music across many genres, styles and approaches. Whether you’re interested in recording technology, performance, musicology or composition, here you will find a welcoming and enthusiastic community. Clark’s music faculty is a friendly team of highly accomplished music professionals, scholars, and creators, all of whom are devoted to teaching the next generation of musicians.
