Interactive Media (Game Design)

What courses should I take in my first year to see if this is the right major for me?

There are a variety of classes that we recommend students take at least a few of in their first year at Clark if they are interested in a major in Interactive Media. These include: GAME 010, GAME 025, GAME 030, GAME 095, GART 100, or GCPT 010.

Are there any courses I am required or strongly encouraged to take in my first semester if I know I want to declare this major? Do any AP credits count for these requirements?

It is strongly encouraged that students take at least GAME 025 prior to declaring their major. However, any of the courses listed above can also be beneficial in your first semester.

What is the latest semester that I can start this major and still graduate in four years?

The latest you can declare this major is during your Sophomore Fall semester as the major requires 13 courses to be complete, including five semesters of the GAME 255 course.

I am interested in many different subjects. What other majors, minors, or concentrations go well with this major?

Almost any major at Clark pairs well with Interactive Media. 40% of the students in our classes are non-majors! In general, some popular pairings include: Psychology, Computer Science, Data Science, Business programs, Studio Art, Screen Studies, English and Creative Writing, Environmental Studies, and Geography.

What else do you want incoming first year students to know about this major?

A lot of our students also enjoy joining our International Game Developer’s Association student chapter when you come to campus.

If I want to declare this as a major, who should I talk to and where do I go?

Feel free to drop by the Center for Media Arts, Computing, and Design to see the facilities our students enjoy, and meet with any of our excellent faculty, including our Program Director Paul Cotnoir. You can also learn more by visiting our website here.
