Founded in 1986, the Higgins School of Humanities fosters linking activities among the different humanities disciplines: English, Foreign Languages, Visual and Performing Arts, Philosophy, and History. It supports teaching and research through its public events and campus initiatives, enhancing the intellectual and cultural life of the Clark community. In addition, each year the Higgins School provides grants to humanities faculty to pursue their research, often through travel to conferences, archives, museums, libraries, and other resources.

Initiatives

The Difficult Dialogues program at Clark is a campus-wide initiative aimed at developing skills and awareness of dialogue – encouraging engagement across differences in both our classrooms and community. Clark was one of 27 institutions selected by the Ford Foundation from 730 colleges and universities nation-wide to participate in this initiative – of which the Higgins school was an original co-sponsor, along with the department of International Development, Community and Environment (IDCE). The program contiunues this year with additional support from the Clark's Graduate School of Management (GSOM).
