Experiential learning
The media, culture, and the arts major is built around hands-on, project based experiences. From the Creative Intermedia Seminars — each of which culminates in a public demonstration of student work — to internships, community journalism, and independent production projects, your creative and critical work will gain context and meaning through engagement with an audience.
Public-facing work
Creative Intermedia Seminars
Every Creative Intermedia Seminar has a public dimension. Students have produced podcasts, short films, interactive theater pieces, animations, and multimedia installations — work that is shared beyond the classroom.
Urban Community Journalism
Learn the world of digital news in a course based on the workings of a daily newspaper website (Worcester Telegram & Gazette). Students will hear from working reporters, photographers, and editors as they explore the steps that lead to a reader clicking on a headline.
Media arts, computing, and design
Thanks to close collaboration with the interactive media: game design and development program Clark has become an innovator in media arts, computing, and design. Media, culture, and the arts students have natural pathways into collaborative work with game design, interactive media, and computer science students — the adjacent fields where hybrid creative practice is expanding.
Internships
Media, culture, and the arts students have interned in audio and video production, marketing, journalism, and other media fields with organizations including The Documentary Group, Macmillan, and Unite America. Internships can be taken for credit through MCA 298 and, with program director approval, may count toward major requirements.
