About the Campaign

In his dedication speech in 1889, Jonas Clark presented his vision for the new university, emphasizing that it was guided by “a well-defined plan and purpose, in which plan and purpose we have steadily persevered.” A fervent believer in the transformative power of higher education, he envisioned Clark University as a dynamic force for advancing human knowledge and enriching lives—on campus, throughout Worcester, and around the globe.

Now well into our second century, we are inspired by a renewed spirit of plan and purpose, advancing the promise of Clark’s vision by conducting breakthrough research in service of the world’s most intractable challenges and by focusing on using our resources and distinguished competencies to positively impact what matters most, be it our relationship with the planet, with technology or with each other.

The campaign we now undertake is a bold call to action, uniting our community in the pursuit of innovation, discovery, and meaningful change—ensuring that Clark continues to shape a brighter, more equitable future for generations to come.

Clark’s small and distinctive University College model enables us to stay above the fray, punch above our weight, and always be ready to roll up our sleeves and do the work. To that end, we will seek to galvanize those who matter to Clark—and to whom Clark matters—through substantive interactions both big and small, with the goal of raising at least $300 million to uphold our founding vision, guided by Plan and Purpose.
