Clark is offering a bold new learning experience designed to challenge convention, elevate potential, and prepare students with the tools and capacities to leave their imprint on the world.

Unconventional Masterclass: A Clark Experience features 30 essential future-ready skills taught directly by global leaders in technology, public service, entrepreneurship, ethics, scientific research, civic engagement, and innovation. These masterclasses, delivered as short online courses, will provide undergraduate students an unparalleled opportunity to learn from individuals who are shaping the world today.

“Unconventional Masterclass is a very special addition to The Clark Experience and a real point of distinction for the University,” says Dean of the College Laurie Ross. “Our students will have access to, and be mentored by, leading thinkers and practitioners who have found success and fulfillment in a range of career and life paths. The fact that this program, with its remarkable roster of accomplished, innovative leaders, is unique to Clark University is, frankly, pretty amazing.”

Following is a sampling of some of the leaders with whom Unconventional Masterclass participants will engage.

  • Panera founder Ron Shaich ’76, who will offer effective strategies for remaining focused, disciplined, and productive.
  • Sarah Williams ’97, director of the Leventhal Center of Advanced Urbanism at MIT, who will reveal how to transform complex information into compelling visual stories.
  • Alex Amouyel, president and CEO of Newman’s Own Foundation, who will discuss ways to design your life for meaning and impact.
  • Jennifer Ottinger ’94, chief operating officer, Portfolio Management Group, Black Rock, who will advise on how to solve complex problems and have influence in global organizations.
  • Matt Goldman ’83, MBA ’84, co-founder of Blue Man Group, who will explore the concept of creativity as a core life skill.

Other leaders will provide insight and instruction into AI fluency, finance and capital literacy, product innovation, and purposeful philanthropy, among many other relevant and compelling topics.

The program will launch with a series of classes in the fall semester, with additional classes added each semester. Also during each semester, at least one of the leaders will come to class for an in-person learning experience.

“From Unconventional Masterclass to the ePortfolio to Clark Degree in 3, there are incredible and unique opportunities here for deep and engaged learning,” Ross said. “This is an exciting time to be a Clark student.”
