The Center for Gender, Race and Area Studies supports interdisciplinary teaching and research on deep-rooted social issues, with a primary focus on how race, gender, and ethnicity shape global inequality, geopolitics, and the struggle for human rights.

Amid public debate over the NFL’s choice of the Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny as the Halftime Headliner for Super Bowl LX, Juan Pablo Rivera discussed themes of gender, politics, and identity in the musician’s work at an event co-sponsored by the Center for Gender, Race and Area Studies.
In addition to our ongoing seminar series, the Center for Gender, Race and Area Studies partners with other centers and organizations to host events that dissect important real-world issues and enrich classroom discussions on campus. We also offer funding for undergraduate research and opportunities for affiliated Clark faculty and visiting scholars.
The Center serves as a hub for two degree programs and five interdisciplinary concentrations at Clark:
- Asian Studies, B.A.
- Women’s and Gender Studies, B.A.
- Africana Studies, concentration

- Genocide and Humans Rights, concentration
