Concentration in German Studies

Why Choose German Studies?

Immerse yourself in one of Europe’s oldest and most influential cultures

From science and technology (think Einstein and Gutenberg) to psychology, philosophy, and the arts (Freud, Hannah Arendt, Mozart, and Marlene Dietrich) the achievements of German-speaking peoples have played a critical role in European and world history, from their first contact with the Roman Empire to the present.

As a student in the German studies concentration, offered through Clark’s Language, Literature, and Culture Department, you’ll have an opportunity to study German language and culture (including courses offered in English) from disciplinary perspectives like comparative literature, history, and philosophy. Access to advanced German language courses is available at other local colleges through the Higher Education Consortium of Central Massachusetts.

While you can combine this concentration with any major, it’s an especially good complement to majors in literature, economics, history, management, music, philosophy, political science, psychology, and screen studies.

Minimum number of courses to complete this concentration: 6
