Who are you/What do you do?

Ry Southard. Retired 40-year business development executive wanting to use my dusty, but not rusty, BFA from San Francisco Art Institute, 1980.

What are your career aspirations/what motivates you?

Rewire my creative brain and see where it takes me. Currently there is no expectation other than to soar. The joy of learning motivates me.

How does the MFA in Visual Arts help you reach your objectives?

It is now proven to help me unlock my creative potential as well as write a damn fine research paper.

Why did you choose the Clark MFA in Visual Arts over other possible options?

The low residency was the first plus. The second plus was the then somewhat undefined benefit of the program being critique and collaborative based. I made a good choice. Other programs would have forced me to relocate to meet the almost full time teaching and other onsite responsibilities.

What would you tell a friend who is considering the program?

Three thumbs up! It is a wonderful community all willing to help each other.
