Who are you/What do you do?
Eva Lin Fahey 张雯林 she/her
I am a visual artist with a studio in Florence, MA. My work considers the impact of family separation in the face of China’s One Child Policy through the creation of personal mythologies and manifestations of past, present, and future ghosts.
What are your career aspirations/what motivates you?
I aspire to continue sharing my work in contexts that support both experimentation and thoughtful engagement. Long-term, I hope to teach and mentor in higher education—to contribute meaningfully to critical dialogues around identity, cultural translation, and belonging, while cultivating an art practice that is sustainable and that offers space for others to imagine, reflect, and remember.
How does the MFA in Visual Arts help you reach your objectives?
The MFA gives me structured time, space, and critical feedback to evolve my work in a deeper direction. It challenges me to articulate what I’m doing and why, not just through the work itself but through writing, research, and dialogue. It’s helping me locate my work in a broader lineage while still staying rooted in my professional practice.
Why did you choose the Clark MFA in Visual Arts over other possible options?
I wanted a program that understood that art doesn’t happen in a vacuum, and Clark offers that—alongside mentorship, dialogue, and a cohort of artists who are coming to the program from many different vantage points. The program supports a way of working that holds me accountable while also allowing space for self-direction. I appreciate the balance between open-ended mentorship and structured advising—it allows me to shape the experience around what I need, while ensuring I’m also pushed to engage with perspectives and practices I might not have sought out on my own.
What would you tell a friend who is considering the program?
I’d say this program will meet you where you are, but it won’t let you stay there. It will ask you to dig deeper, to clarify your intentions, and to hold your work up to the light. Clark is the program for you if you’re ready to commit to a rigorous and reflective practice with an emphasis on artistic community.
