2017 Fiske Guide cites Clark University’s LEEP model, caring community, global outlook

“The Fiske Guide to Colleges,” revised and updated for 2017, again includes Clark University in its annual “selective, subjective, and systematic look at three-hundred-plus colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, and the U.K.”

The Fiske Guide to Colleges logoThe guide covers a broad range of topics, including academic quality, student body, social life, financial aid, campus setting, housing, food, and extracurricular activities. About Clark, it states, “Clark’s Liberal Education and Effective Practice (LEEP) educational model is designed to prepare students for success after college by combining a liberal arts curriculum with ‘intensive world, workplace, and personal experiences.’” The profile highlights the small class sizes across the university, which “emphasize the value of discussion-based learning and a small classroom environment. … Clark’s Program of Liberal Studies promotes the habits, skills, and perspectives essential to lifelong learning.”

Also included in Clark’s profile are anonymous quotes from students of various grade levels. “Clark students care about each other, the community, and the world around them,” says one student. “Clark students are most interested in social justice, international development, and humanitarian issues,” a junior adds. “However, you can be your own person here.”

The Fiske guide is compiled by Edward B. Fiske, who served for 17 years as education editor of The New York Times.  Now a leading independent voice in college admissions, Fiske is also co-author of the “Fiske Guide to Getting into the Right College” and “Fiske Real College Essays That Work.”

The “Fiske Guide to Colleges” is available at bookstores now, as an iPad app from the Apple App Store, and as a web app from College Countdown.
