April 3 @ 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm

Elyse Semerjdian is the Robert Aram and Marianne Kaloosdian and Stephen and Marian Mugar Chair of Armenian Genocide Studies and a professor in the Department of History. She will discuss the limitations of the state archive and her methodology for locating women’s voices in the archival record. The lecture will highlight her use of photography and letters and highlight some of the earliest testimonies composed by women survivors to show how genocide weaponizes the sexual economy of the patriarchal household.
