Winter storm update

This is a follow-up to the email you received from Executive Vice President Hitchell and Provost Magee yesterday at 5:15 p.m.

The National Weather Service continues to predict severe winter weather with heavy snowfall and high winds beginning this afternoon into tomorrow. In response, the Governor of Massachusetts has declared a state of emergency so that state personnel can effectively manage the situation. This, in turn, has affected the guidance to campus. Please take note of the following important updates regarding operations for tomorrow (Monday).

Status of campus/remote work

Only essential employees in critical student-supporting roles should travel to campus. All other employees should work remotely. If you have questions about your role and responsibility, please speak with your supervisor.

As a residential institution, the University will not close. However, you should anticipate that most offices and non-essential services will not be staffed in person. Critical student services, including dining, will continue but with modified schedules. Please see schedule updates below. We will share further updates as we have them.

No in-person classes

No in-person classes will be held. Per our continuity-of-learning procedures, faculty will determine how best to conduct coursework via remote teaching or other arrangements and will communicate directly with their students.

Schedule changes (with updates to be shared as we have them)

  • At this point, we anticipate regular dining hours at the Table at Higgins and the Bistro. The Cougar Cafe and the Den will be closed. We will keep you posted of any changes.
  • The library will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Academic Commons, as always, will be open 24/7 with swipe access.
  • The mailroom will be closed.
