Musical legends of Clark

From Jimi Hendrix to Bruce Springsteen, James Brown to Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead to the Talking Heads, they filled the nights with energy and magic.

These artists, and many more, shaped a musical legacy that still echoes across the Clark University campus. Some arrived as established stars, while others were on the verge of becoming legends.

The memorabilia exhibit in the Higgins University Center and the photo display in the Atwood Hall lobby have been generously donated by Trustee Nancy Mack and Chad Smith, P ’27 to celebrate the icons who once took the Clark stage, looked out at an audience of students, and delivered greatness.

“Music gives young people identity, connection, and hope. The story of Atwood Hall is proof that a small university can become a cultural landmark when it opens its doors to creativity, risk-taking, and live music. We wanted to capture that spirit — the idea that art can happen anywhere and leave a lasting impact for decades.”
