Internships
Students who major or minor in Spanish—or combine Spanish with another field—discover powerful ways to bring their interests together.
At Clark, most students are double majors, and studying languages provides them with the flexibility to integrate knowledge across disciplines and apply it meaningfully in a wide range of professional settings. Research consistently shows that bilingual and trilingual graduates enter the job market with a competitive edge: they are better positioned for employment, have stronger social skills, and bring highly valued intercultural competencies that are essential for a successful and forward-looking career.
The Spanish Program currently offers a variety of internship experiences through SPAN 205: Spanish Community Internship, a course designed to connect students with local organizations and allow them to engage in real-world, community-based work. These internships span multiple professional areas—including health professions, education, and nonprofit work—and we are actively developing new opportunities in the arts and law.
Our current community partners include El Buen Samaritano, Centro Inc., the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center, and Woodland Academy. Students may complete one or two semesters of internship, gaining experience in different roles depending on their interests and career goals.
Each internship requires a commitment of 15 hours per week for 12 weeks, during which students develop field-specific skills as well as essential soft skills—communication, collaboration, cultural awareness, and professional adaptability. These hands-on experiences not only strengthen résumés but also help students envision future pathways in which language and culture play a central, transformative role.
