Biannual Technology Survey

Every 2 years, ITS surveys the Clark community about their experiences with technology on campus. We use this information to identify strengths, and opportunities for improvement.

Clark partners with MISO to run our survey. The MISO Survey, developed over many years by a volunteer group of librarians and technologists provides highly comparable data across peer institutions and delivers higher response rates than similar surveys. Since 2005, the survey has been administered at 170 institutions.

How we use surveys

After conducting our surveys, we receive in-depth results from MISO on the responses from our own campus, and comparative data from a range of other schools.

ITS analyzes this internally and shares it with various committees and campus leadership. We identify strengths and opportunities for the coming years in order to improve campus satisfaction and meet our community’s needs.

Below we’d outlined some of the big changes that have been identified and prioritized based on our community feedback.

WiFi

As our students, faculty and staff, are always on the go around campus, WiFi is a service that consistent shows as high importance in our surveys.

Based on feedback, we have run extensive projects to increase connectivity and performance in all corners of the campus – both inside and outside.

We also streamlined the students connection process to remove additional barriers to accessing resources.

Computer Replacements

Staff and Faculty identified challenges with our computer replacement process in 2022, following COVID.

Since then we’ve reimagined the process with more proactive outreach, a larger variety of device and peripheral options, and quicker turn-around.

Additionally, we have restructured our loaner laptop program to make receiving a loaner device easier and quicker than ever.

Communication and Transparency

To better address the campus’ request for more communication and transparency, ITS has implemented a number of changes.

These include an ITS Status page to communicate outages, a responsive Governance process, and an upcoming project to apply industry standard guidelines (ITIL) to our work.

Finally we have worked with our Help Desk student staff to increase the quality and quantity of communication to Clarkies who have issues and requests.

Classroom Technology & Support

Over the last years, our campus has grown, and the way we teach, learn and work has changed. With that, comes additional needs for classroom technology.

To best address the opportunities highlighted in our survey, ITS has begun putting best-of-breed technology in all standard rooms. This includes replacing Owl cameras with more reliable Audio-Visual equipment, installing casting technology, and performing more regular maintenance checks on all spaces.

Access to Resources

Clarkies let us know that access to resources was often confusing, and overly complex. We made a number of changes to support streamlined, and easier access to Clark systems.

These include upgrading our Banner Self-Service, updating you.clarku.edu, making single sign-on more consistent, and better promoting Multi-factor Authentication and Self-Service Password Reset.

Other Changes

Other changes that have been prioritized due to your feedback include:

– Revisiting printing technology across campus.

– Better support and communication around telephone services.

– The hiring of a dedicated trainer to offer all Clarkies better support.
