Toedtli work is a comparative study that examines actors who move between being a victim, perpetrator, bystander, and rescuer in the context of the Holocaust and the 1994 genocide in Rwanda to understand how, when, and why actors in genocide engage in role-shifting. Examining the shared and divergent patterns emerging from this comparison will identify the underlying mechanisms of role-shifting. It will also examine the consequences of the fluidity of categories and role-shifting for our broader understanding of genocides.
