Merchants of Genocide: Gender, Mass Violence, and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria

Barazi is a doctoral student in the Genocide Studies track. Barazi holds a B.A. in Political Science/International Affairs and M.A. in International Affairs from the Lebanese American University in Beirut, Lebanon. She is a two-time recipient of the prestigious Middle East Partnership Initiative Tomorrow’s Leaders scholarship program. Barazi’s research focuses on the Yazidi genocide and the violence of non-state actors in the Middle East, specifically the “Islamic State”. Drawing from Genocide Studies and Political Science, Barazi investigates the Islamic States’ ideological and strategic motivations behind designing a gendered genocidal campaign against the Yazidi minority in Northern Iraq.
