Welcoming April Carlson to the Team

We’re happy to welcome April Carlson as our new Assistant Director. April joins us with a strong background in grants, operations, and research administration, and years of experience helping research work run the way it should behind the scenes.

Before stepping into this role, Carlson was at Clark’s George Perkins Marsh Institute, where she served as the Research Grant Portfolio and Operations Manager. She managed a wide portfolio of sponsored research projects, worked on strengthening the financial systems supporting them, and partnered directly with faculty on complex research initiatives. Furthermore, her responsibilities ranged from compliance and budgeting to project planning and reporting, creating the essential infrastructure that kept research initiatives on track and allowed faculty to concentrate on advancing their research objectives.

Her career in accounting and grants goes back further than her time at the Marsh Institute. Before Clark, Carlson spent eleven years at Quinsigamond Community College, where she worked in general and grants accounting and ended her career there as Grant Accounting Manager. Moreover, those years gave her a full picture of how grants accounting works from the ground up, from the day to day bookkeeping to the larger financial management side of things. This is the kind of range that comes only from spending real time in the field.

Carlson also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Becker College, which grounded her early on in the organizational, financial, and leadership skills she still relies on today. Furthermore, between her academic background and her years of hands on experience, she brings a well rounded perspective to the role, one that is grounded in both structure and practice.

Outside of work, Carlson keeps her time full. She loves spending time with her family, including her son and nephews, catches live music with friends when she can, and is usually in the middle of planning her next Disney trip. If she isn’t already on one, she is probably counting down to the next.

Please join us in welcoming April Carlson to the team.
