The most expensive option, new textbooks are often a good choice if you will need the textbook for more than one semester and/or you plan on keeping the book permanently as a reference.

Used textbooks are available at a significant discount. Students are encouraged to shop early if they plan to buy used textbooks, as they are often subject to limited availability.

Used textbooks are available from the online bookstore directly, as well as from its third-party Marketplace. While Marketplace books can be less expensive, please remember that they ship directly from an individual. The books ordered through the Marketplace usually ship Media Mail and can take up to several weeks to arrive.

Rentals are an excellent choice for books you don’t intend to keep and need for only one semester. You can highlight and write notes in rented books.

E-books can be a less expensive alternative to print books. When ordering an e-book, keep in mind that you may only have access to the e-book for the semester. In some cases, you will be able to access your notes after you are no longer able to access the book itself. You should be able to print approximately one quarter of the book’s pages for easier reading.
