Photo Essay: Clark’s Sigmund Freud statue

Sigmund Freud’s only trip to America was to Clark’s 1909 conference, a celebration of the University’s 20th anniversary. Freud visited campus from Sept. 6 to 19 and delivered five lectures, collectively titled “The Origin and Development of Psychoanalysis.”

Students, faculty, and staff are reminded of this visit every time they cross the Campus Green, where a statue of Freud sits before Jonas Clark Hall. On holidays and special occasions, students ensure Freud dons appropriate accessories.
