Derry and Belfast were two key cities during “The Troubles,” with bombs, desolation, and British soldiers. Clark University alum John Emond ’74 personally witnessed this landscape — first through Clark’s January Study Program in 1973, and later through community efforts over five trips spanning 49 years, 1973 to 2022.
John will share his experiences, including some remarkable people he met. He will also offer thoughts on how Northern Ireland at the crossroads may provide lessons for the U.S. today, and will stay after the lecture for an informal conversation regarding Northern Ireland, his life at Clark in the 1970s, and his varied career path following graduation.
