This year’s Chowder Fest was held Friday, October 19th at 4:30 p.m.

Students joined us for a night of conversation and a bowl of hearty soup as part of an evening with Clark English alums! This event was co-sponsored by LEEP and the Department of English.

Guest Speakers:

Jeremy Shulkin ’07, MAT ’08, English Teacher at University Park Campus School and Freelance Writer. Jeremy Shulkin is a high school English teacher at Main South’s University Park Campus School and local freelance journalist for Worcester Magazine, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, and CLARK Magazine. Shulkin graduated from Clark in 2007 with an English and Spanish minor and completed Clark’s MAT program in 2008. After graduation, Shulkin spent three years as Worcester Magazine’s Senior Writer. He is in his seventh year at UPCS and has had stints teaching for Quinsigamond Community College, Ana Maria College, a summer school in St. Andrews, Scotland and Cambridge, England and the Bancroft School’s Young Writers Conference.

 

 

Danielle Burs ’07, Counsel at DC Appleseed Center for Law and Justice. Danielle has a broad policy portfolio, runs the intern and fellowship programs, and handles a variety of legal tasks, such as drafting contracts. Danielle’s major policy areas include research, analysis, and project management for DC Appleseed’s affordable housing, Anacostia watershed and river restoration, insurance reform, and D.C. democracy projects, among others. Danielle has a BA in Government and English from Clark University and a JD from American University Washington College of Law, and has worked on D.C. public policy for over seven years. Prior to joining DC Appleseed, Danielle was an associate at Goldblatt Martin Pozen LLP, Legislative Director for Ward One Councilmember Brianne K. Nadeau, Director of Policy at the Coalition for Nonprofit Housing and Economic Development, and JD Distinguished Fellow at affordable housing developer Manna, Inc. In her spare time, Danielle serves on the board of Manna, Inc., is a committee chair of the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Law Project alumni association, and is a volunteer mentor with Year Up. She also spends as much time as possible in or near the water and reading science fiction.Criminal Justice, Arizona State University
