On April 8, Clarkies are invited to gather in the Kresge Quad (between the Higgins University Center and the Math and Physics Building) to watch the partial solar eclipse.

Eclipse FAQs

What is a solar eclipse?
When the shadow of the moon passes over the surface of the earth.

What is totality?
When the disk of the moon completely covers the disk of the sun. Massachusetts is not in the path of totality for the eclipse on Monday — we will experience a partial solar eclipse, with 87% coverage on the Cape and 96% in the northern Berkshires.

Note: Never look directly at the eclipse without special eye protection. During any kind of eclipse, there are fewer visible rays because of the moon’s position, so your eyes dilate to allow for more light in — making them more vulnerable to damage from UV rays.
