The Massachusetts Food Trust (MFT) provides loans, grants, and business assistance for increasing access to healthy, affordable food in low-income, underserved areas. The program offers critical financial and technical support to help launch and expand businesses that increase food access, create jobs and stimulate economic investment in urban, suburban, and rural communities across the Commonwealth. Eligible projects include: grocery stores, corner stores, co-ops, farmers markets and mobile markets.
Now in its third year of operation, the MFT has helped a wide array of projects across the Commonwealth. Examples include Stop & Compare Market in Lynn, Quabbin Harvest in Orange, and Go Fresh Mobile Market in Springfield.
The MFT supports new and existing businesses. The program prioritizes support for businesses selling fresh food that is grown, caught, or harvested in MA.
