“Beans” is a coming-of-age drama inspired by historical events. The film follows pre-teen Tekehentahkhwa, who also goes by “Beans,” as she learns to balance growing up and learning about herself with standing up for what she believes and fighting for her land and her family. “Beans” is inspired by director/writer Tracey Deer’s real-life experiences witnessing and engaging with the 1990 Oka Crisis, a land dispute between a group of Mohawk people and the Quebec government. Snacks will be provided.
