Hall Closing Procedures

Spring Closing

The residence halls close for summer break on the day following the last day of Final Exams at 12:00 PM. This means that students are expected to be completely moved out and to leave the residence halls by that time. Each fall, the residence halls re-open for returning undergraduate students on the day before classes begin, at 9:00 AM. For specific dates for this school year, please view the Residence Calendar.

Clark does offer summer housing on a limited basis for students participating in an internship, research, taking classes, or working in the Worcester area. For more information,  head to our Summer Housing page.

 

 

  1. If you need to stay past the closing date, complete the Late Stay Application located on the Housing & Dining portal. Late stays will only be granted for extraordinary circumstances, so apply early if needed.
  2. Remove any and all personal belongings, and cleaning the room before leaving. Students may be charged for damages, trash, or personal items left behind at closing.
  3. RAs will be going through all the rooms to complete Room Inspections once the building is closed. If any personal items are found in your room, they will be disposed of. You are responsible for making sure the following tasks are completed prior to your departure:
    1. Move all furniture away from the radiator/heat
    2. Make sure all radiator valves are fully open
    3. Close and lock ALL windows! It saves energy, and prevents unwanted guests from getting in. If you are unable to close/lock your window, please contact Facilities Management.
    4. Put down shades or close curtains.
    5. Remove all trash from your room.
    6. Turn off all the lights.
    7. Close and lock the door.
    8. Return your key to the RLH Office during business hours, or to University Police outside of business hours.

Clark University does not have on campus storage available.

Students are able to work with off-campus vendors to store items as needed. Clark University has a relationship with Collegeboxes.

Collegeboxes, the official storage and shipping provider for Clark University, provides a seamless, affordable, and safe way for students to move out for the summer.

Simply create an account on Collegeboxes.com to secure your service and order supplies. Pack up your items, label, and leave them right in your room when you head home. We will provide Collegeboxes with access to your room after you have departed campus. Collegeboxes will pick up the items and store or ship them to a destination of your choice.

For the Spring 2024 semester, order by May 1, 2024 for service.

 

 

For the Spring 2024 Semester, here are the move out dates for residential students:

  • Undergraduate students (not including graduating seniors) will need to be moved out of the residence halls by 12pm on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.
  • Graduating Seniors need to be moved out of the residence halls by 5pm on Monday, May 8, 2024.
  • Graduate Housing Students need to be moved out by Friday, May 31, 2024 by 5pm.

Winter Break Closing

The residence halls close for winter break on the day following the last day of Final Exams at 12:00 PM. This means that students are expected to leave the on campus residence halls by that time. Over winter break, students returning for the spring semester are welcome to leave their personal items in their assigned residence hall room, but are encouraged to take home any valuable items, medications, and travel documents that may be needed over the break period. RLH cannot guarantee that staff members will be available during the break period to help students retrieve these belongings if forgotten. Each spring, the residence halls re-open for undergraduate students on the day before classes begin, at 9:00 AM. For specific dates for this school year, please view the Residence Calendar.

Clark does offer winter break housing on a limited basis for students in need of housing. Students will be able to fill out a Winter Break Housing from on their Housing & Dining portal at the end of the fall semster to request housing.

  1. If you need to stay past the closing date or for the entire break, complete the Late Stay Request form on the Housing & Dining portal.
  2. If you need to arrive to campus before the opening date, complete the Early Arrival Request form.
  3. Pack all necessary belongings including valuable items, medications, identification paperwork and travel documents.
  4. Students are responsible for making sure the following tasks are completed prior to departure:
    1. Move all furniture and belongings away from the radiator/ heater.
    2. Make sure all radiator valves are fully open.
    3. Close and lock ALL windows!! It saves energy, and prevents unwanted guests from getting in. If you are unable to close/ lock your window, please contact physical plant.
    4. Put down shades or close curtains.
    5. Remove all perishable food!
    6. Prohibited items (i.e. candles, toasters, lava lamps, etc.) that are found at closing will be confiscated and room owners will be documented.
    7. Remove all trash from your room.
    8. If you have a pet fish, please take it home.
    9. Disconnect all plugs from wall sockets.
    10. Defrost your refrigerator. Remove/discard perishable food, unplug, and leave the door open (to prevent mildew and mold). Rooms/suites left with a refrigerator running will be charged a $25 energy fee. (Clark provided refrigerators in apartments may be left running).
    11. Turn off all the lights.
    12. Close and lock the door.
