The Action Item is being worked on, with the goal of completion.

Create ways for faculty to better understand the experiences of Clark students, particularly those from underrepresented student populations. This is a joint effort by the dean of the college, the dean of the faculty, and the Division of Student Affairs, all part of the Office of the Provost.

Updates

Updates as of June 8, 2021

  • The University has created a new structure to bring greater impact to student and academic-facing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts. Three assistant deans — one reporting to the Dean of the Faculty; one reporting to the dean of the college; and one reporting to the dean of students — will be responsible for deepening and better coordinating DEI efforts in several key areas. Effective June 21, 2021, Hayley Haywood has been appointed to a new assistant dean for equity in research and learning position, in which she will work with individual faculty and departments to bring a student-oriented, equity-focused lens to increasing equity for historically underrepresented groups in research opportunities. She will also help to organize and implement the Mentorship Matrix program along with a number of other initiatives in partnership with assistant deans for equity in student affairs and the college.

Updates as of Feb. 12, 2021

  • In creating the assistant dean for equity and student success, the Dean of Students office will be well positioned to help faculty and student-facing staff better understand the needs of Black and other underserved students and, in turn, improve the practices and policies governing students’ experiences.
