The postcard shows an illustration of Freidrich Der Grosse, also known as Frederick the Great, King of Prussia. Below the illustration of the man is a quote reading: “Das Volk, das ich liebe, ist der einzige Gott dem ich diene” which translates to “The people I love are the only God I serve. 

Frederick the Great’s historical image was manipulated and appropriated by the Nazis to promote their own agenda. Adolf Hitler admired Frederick’s legacy as a strong military leader and the founder of a powerful Prussia and used this to legitimize Nazi rule and project a nationalistic image of German strength.
