Front:

The front is for the Winterhilfswerk charitable organization. Beyond charity, the WHW was also used by the Nazi regime to promote the concept of “Volksgemeinschaft” (people’s community) and a sense of national unity. The postcard specifically mentions a “Gaustraßensammlung im Traditionsgau”, indicating a street collection within a traditional district, carried out by officials (“Gesamtbeamtenschaft des Gaues”).  

Back:

The back is an illustration of carnations, symbolizing the beauty and resilience of the German people or the spirit of charity. Red carnations mean love and affection, Pink means gratitude, and white means purity and innocence. It also features the initials “WHW” for the Winterhilfswerk, as well as the slogan “Hast du schon?, meaning “You already have?’, implying that everyone should contribute to the war effort and support those in need.
