Barry Hoffman Nazi Postcard Collection

Nuremberg Knight

Accession Number: 2022.02.10.5.8

Stamp: Green Reichsparteitag 1943 Nürnberg 6 Mark stamp

Postmark: Nürnberg-hof bahnpost (Nurmberg station train mail service)

Historical background:

Medieval imagery was used in Nazi propaganda to portray their actions as the restoration of venerated German history and folklore. In the case of this postcard, generic medieval imagery was likely used for the 1934 Nuremberg Rally (Reichsparteitag) due to the absence of an official theme leading up to the event. After the fact, it was labeled as the Rally of Unity and Strength, Rally of Power, or Rally of Will.
