Accension Number: 2022.02.8.33
Stamp: 6 Winterhilfswerk Deutches Reich
Postmark: BERLIN 22.12.3
The address is difficult to identify, but what can be made out is: “Berlin-Wilhelmshage / Moltkestr. 11”
The illustration to the left of the postcard is of Martin Luther and the following quote: “Ich suche nicht das Meine, sondern allein des ganze Deutschlands Glück und Heil” (I seek not my own, but only the happiness and salvation of all Germany). Also, it includes his birth and death dates of November 10, 1483 and February 18, 1546.
There is a extra text at the top that reads “Weihnnachtssendungen rechtzeitig aufgeben”, translating to “Mail Christmas shipments in time”. This suggests a wartime appeal for timely holiday mail delivery. The text is visible over a few lines and the Reichsadler (Imperial Eagle) emblem, a symbol of Nazi Germany.
There is a letter on the back that reads of follows:
- “Lieber Neffe Karl, ein gesegates Weihnnachtsfest und ein gütes neues Jahr 1940 wünsche ich Dir und allen Deinen Lieben. Hat mein Portenkind sich nun wider recht erholt, und seid Ihr Alle wohlaufs um ein schönes Fest feiern zu können? das wünsche ich von gawem Herzen. Ich freue mich auf den 10. Janmas 1940.
